OPEN THREAD: Bringing your Dog

I just read a great article in the New York Times about bringing your dog to work. I did this many years ago when doing a short term gig in San Francisco. It was wonderful. One of the reasons I work at home is to be with my dog during the day. How many of you Monrovians feel the same? Do any of you work for companies that allow you to bring your dog? Would you like it if more stores allowed you to bring your dog inside? (I love that Bank of America lets me take my poodle with me while I wait in line.) Would you like to see more dog friendly areas in town?

We had to give Teddy "the Little Man" to my sister for a few weeks because my wife has just donated a kidney to her mom, and both are living here. Ma is susceptible to infection, and what not, so we had to do it, but it breaks my heart because I miss him so much.

I can;t wait to get him back. Mayeb I'll take him to work one day.

I used to work in a dog friendly office in Palo Alto. Perhaps it's a Bay Area thing. I, too, will be working at home with my doggies soon.

My dogs are a little asocial with other dogs, but I would love to see more dog friendly places around. We just discovered the dog park with separate areas for large and small dogs close by in Arcadia. :)

I don't mind dog friendly businesses, but I don't believe dogs belong inside premises where food is being made for, served to, or otherwise sold to the public. It's one thing to get dog hair in your food at home, but nobody wants it when you go out to eat!

I love dogs. One of the deep sorrows of my life is that I cannot have a dog.I am violently allergic to them, meaning I get asthma almost instantly, so what would I do at work? Also I have a friend who was attacked as a child and is very frightened of dogs. I'm simply pointing out that everyone has to work so I'm not sure that dogs at work are a great idea.

I love the fact that I can take my dog to work and I think that there is a not-so-secret rule that makes it work: good owners! Just like with children, good owners train their dogs to behave appropriately in public.

The problem is, also just like with children, are the people who don't have a clue (or care) that their dogs are mean, loud, antisocial and therefore not welcome. Luckily in the workplace most of those owners are clued in pretty quickly (and asked not to bring their dogs in). But in public businesses, it's not so easy - hence why many businesses don't allow dogs.

Hate to say it, but a few bad apples will always ruin it for the rest of us and I understand why many businesses aren't more doggie friendly.

My son, too, is very allergic to dogs. Since it goes with his asthma, dogs in public places could be very dangerous for him.

Sort of related: I see assistance dogs at the Aquarium all the time. It's really cool because the sea lions get all excited!!!
