OPEN THREAD: Fresh & Easy

Has anyone been to the new Fresh & Easy market on Foothill? Although their produce looked pretty good, the brands on the shelves seemed pretty standard. Where do you shop when there is no Farmer's Market?

I'm not a fan of Fresh N Easy...I don't think it is all they hyped it to be (my own opinion). I mainly shop at Trader Joe's.

I use Costco for the bulk of my shopping. I back fill smaller items in at Fresh and Easy, Pavillions or Kings Ranch. It depends on what I want and how soon I need to use it.

I have to admit I am a huge fan of Fresh and Easy. It is largely because I my friend and neighbor is an ingredient buyer there and I know the pains they have gone through to get locally grown first, always clean and safe products.

I tried Dogwoods a couple of times after they opened and then when the owners changed hands. The biggest reason I don't shop there is simply getting in and out of the parking lot is dangerous due to the traffic on Foothill. Second is that though the place is better stocked the place hasn't been able to meet my expectations for affordability, selection and service.

There is still a farmers market, at least when it's not raining, though it's mostly citrus and vegetables this time of year. My sister loves grapes, which apparently can only be obtained from Chile these days -- and seem to arrive in their own first-class airplane seats. We go to Dogwoods, although the quality (and cleanliness) seems pretty uneven, or King Ranch. Or boring Ralphs and Pavilions. Are we missing any place else?

ok, deep breath and third time is a charm.... When not getting good exercise shopping for fresh veggies at the street festival/farmer's market, Fresh and Easy has a nice selection of meat and fruits and vegetables and seafood. It is a nice big store whose size Trader Joe's could benefit from. I would hope that they could improve the packaged section and get better use of the large space. Dogwood's is different and good as well, but the parking is minimal. I prefer Trader Joe's overall. For an expensive shopping trip, Bristol Farms in Pasadena is nice too.

okay...in the interest of research and always willing to be of public service, we went to Whole Foods on Foothill Blvd in Pasadena today. Wow! it is nice and big and full of organic foods. this is now our favorite market. the butcher counter is wonderful, they even have ground lamb. the seafood has a nice fresh smell. they have an amazing selection of wines and beers, one called Lobotomy Bock is 10.8% alcohol. they have fresh ground coffees and make mixed ground nut butters. they also have many varieties of aged cheeses that taste really good. we were running around like kids in a candy store and didn't get away until we spent almost $200.00, but it was well worth it. 3751 E Foothill Blvd, you gotta go there!
