This famous tree is a Moreton Bay Fig, one of the largest still in existence and one of the few left in California. When the campaign was underway to pass the Measure L library bond earlier this year, many voters asked me (as chair of the committee) to be sure this tree is undamaged in the new construction. The City plans some protective barriers around it. I also plan to lay down on the ground if I see any heavy equipment too close to it! It has a storied history which isn't coming to mind at the moment, but maybe I'll find my notes and add to this blog later.

I'm glad to know it will remain undisturbed. It's a beauty!
