I guess it was about time I posted this image from Doran. I'm not sure what "All America City" means, but I'm open to hearing people's interpretations of it, as well as official explanations.

All American City is a title awarded to cities across America, by what organization, I'm not sure. Bill Clinton awarded Monrovia its honors when he visited our fair city back in the 80s (I think it was the 80s).
"All America City" (not American) is an award given out annually to ten cities by the National League of Cities. It's basically a competition. 30 finalist teams actually go compete for the designation every year. Monrovia's 1995 team was led by Charlotte Schamadan and landed the award.
According to Wikipedia, "The award is the oldest and most respected community recognition program in the nation and recognizes communities whose citizens work together to identify and tackle community-wide challenges and achieve uncommon results."
Bill Clinton's visit was not to give the City the designation, either. He came in July of 1996 and spoke at Monrovia High School, praising Monrovia and specific leaders in town. I'm sure the "All America City" designation helped in getting him here, but the president has nothing to do with the award.

Thanks for illuminating this. It sure seems like Monrovians do have a fair amount of community spirit!
